The European Association for International Education (EAIE) is once again offering its prestigious Doctoral Research Grants, providing critical support to doctoral candidates whose work focuses on the internationalisation of higher education.
This opportunity offers up to €4,500 in funding for up to five doctoral researchers, with the aim of enhancing research capacity and deepening scholarly insight in the field of international education.
What Does the Grant Cover?
The grant is designed to support a wide range of research activities, including:
- Travel for data collection or participation in academic conferences
- Tools for data gathering and analysis (e.g., software, surveys)
- Access to academic resources such as paywalled journals, archives, or databases
In addition to the financial support, successful applicants will receive:
- A 12-month subscription to the Journal of Studies in International Education
- A conference fee waiver for the 2026 EAIE Conference in Glasgow
- A guaranteed opportunity to present their research at the conference, either as a paper or poster
- Who is Eligible?
- The grant is open to doctoral candidates from any country, provided their research relates to the internationalisation of higher education and ideally includes a connection to European contexts.
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in a doctoral programme, able to provide documentation confirming their student status, and submit a letter of recommendation from a supervisor. EAIE also welcomes applications from individuals from underrepresented backgrounds — whether by ethnicity, gender, geography, ability, age, or language.
- Please note: only one application is allowed per person, and current EAIE Board, Committee, or staff members are ineligible.
- Application Requirements
- Applicants must prepare and submit the following:
- Proof of current doctoral status
- Supervisor’s recommendation letter
- Budget worksheet detailing how the funds will be used
- Ethics approval confirmation (if applicable)
- Successful applicants are expected to submit two progress reports — a mid-term report by March 2026 and a final report by September 2026 — and create an additional knowledge-sharing output (such as a blog post or policy brief) that acknowledges the EAIE’s support.
