We are pleased to announce the 15th Annual Conference of the African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE) to be held in Kampala, Uganda from 8th to 10th October 2025.
Conference Call
The 15th ANIE conference will be held under the overarching theme “Internationalization in challenging times: Sustaining Impact, Driving Change towards new futures for Africa. The conference comes at a time of profound geopolitical transformations posing unprecedented and far-reaching impacts on the future of higher education and research cooperation between Africa and other regions of the world. It is thus a moment of change and transformations in various facets and with implications on internationalization. The conference will explore the impacts of these dynamics on internationalization of higher education in Africa It will consider strategies to build resilience, strengthen partnerships and building stronger intra-Africa education engagements. The conference will explore how the gains and benefits of internationalization can be sustained for meaningful impact on African education system, institutions and society. The discussions will take glimpses of the new global dynamics and emerging developments and the realities in Africa to contextualize the discussions. The growing imbalances and attendant risks of internationalization to African universities and societies will also gain centrality in the discourse. In this context, the conference will discuss ways of making internationalization more meaningful and beneficial to African institutions and societies and how the perennial imbalances can be addressed.

Arising from the main theme, the conference will have the following sub-themes

Conference Objectives
- Highlight Successful Models- Showcase case studies of African-led international collaborations and research that address local challenges while contributing to global dialogues.
- Engage Stakeholders- Bring together policymakers, funders, institutional leaders, and researchers to discuss and strategize around equitable collaboration frameworks.
- Foster Partnerships –Encourage networking and cooperation among African and non-African institutions to promote sustainable, inclusive, and impactful projects.
- Formulate Action Steps –Develop and disseminate policy recommendations, institutional guidelines, and funding strategies that support decolonized internationalization.
Target Audience
We invite participation from:
- University administrators and academic leaders.

Call for Submissions
We welcome:
- Academic Papers reporting on research findings, theoretical developments, and case studies.
- Workshops and Interactive Sessions (for example Masterclasses) proposing hands-on learning, skill-building, or policy development exercises.
- Panel Proposals featuring experts from diverse institutions addressing specific themes in internationalization.
- Poster Presentations showcasing research projects or best practices in international partnerships.
Submissions should align with one or more of the conference sub-themes (Sustaining Impact, Driving Change, Transforming Institutions, and Decolonizing Internationalization) and demonstrate clear relevance to African contexts. Submission Guidelines
- Abstracts: 300–500 words, including title, author details, and keywords.
- Full Papers (Optional): 4,000–6,000 words, adhering to academic citation standards (e.g., APA, Harvard).
- Workshop/Panel Proposals: 1–2 pages describing objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes.
- Poster Submissions: 1-page summary outlining the project’s purpose, methodology, and key insights.

- Notification of Acceptance: 10th May 2025
- Conference Registration Opens: 1st March 2025
- Registration closes 20th July 2025

NOTE: Please note that conference fees will cover the costs of tea/coffee, lunches and conference materials. Travel, accommodation and other logistical arrangements are at the cost of the delegates.
