Former ANIE Director to lead Education Reforms in the EAC

Mr. James Otieno Jowi, who has been the Executive Director of ANIE since its establishment in 2008 has stepped down to take up a new position as Principal Education Officer at the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat. Mr. Jowi has seen ANIE grow following its development from a project that was completed in 2008 and led to the publication of a pioneering book on internationalization of higher education in Africa.

Under his leadership, ANIE has taken up several research projects includinmg; Development of a Policy Dissemination Framework for Internationalization in Africa, Learning Mobility with Non-Industrialised Countries, Development of a framework for the sharing of R&D resources on internationalization of higher education in Africa; just to mention a few. ANIE has also conducted  over 10  capacity building workshops and has contributed to numerous publications and reports based on research undertakings.

During the handing over ceremony, Prof. Tolly Mbwette, Chairman ANIE Board congratulated Mr. Jowi on his appointment and thanked him for the effort he had put into ANIE. Prof. Peter Barasa ANIE Board member also thanked Jowi for nurturing ANIE to its current position.

As the Principal Education Officer at the East African Community Secretariat, Mr Jowi is tasked to coordinate the formulation of strategies and policies and implementation of projects and programmes related to training education, science and technology for the six partner states of the East African Community.
